Yesterday, I got the proverbial whipping for not maintaining my blog.
I tried to defend my lack of posting by using the standard excuses - no time, so busy, slipped my mind. But the mocking was merciless - "You announced it to the world! What was the point of that?"
Well, it seems the tough love approach actually works, because here I am, pretending I can fill an entire blog post with witty things.
Unfortunately, although I have been cooking many delicious things lately, I absolutely suck at recording their progress photographically. It could be due to my all enveloping excitement to get the dish finished as fast as possible, or it could be due to laziness. It's probably door #2. Ok, fine, you've caught me - it IS door #2. But I promise to be better!
My merciless critics were also sweet partners in crime when we made peanut brittle last night. It's very easy, very delicious and entirely undocumented. Although I will definitely take artistic shots of the finished product at home, provided that it has not been gobbled up.
I have also recently tried my hand at Martha Stewart's strawberry-shortcake cookies. They turned out delicious, but they seem to have a bit of a Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde personality disorder. The dough came together more like a pie dough, and it was tricky to mix in the strawberries. They baked up like cookies, but had the soft texture of cake. Don't get me wrong though, there are no complaints here, as we're mostly done with all 3 dozen of them!
Coming up this weekend, it's a cooking date to make English fry up. With halal chicken sausage patties. You'd best not ask. But I will try to get lots of pictures to redeem myself.
